Fuengirola is the first town in Andalucía, and one of the first in Spain, to create “solar energy farms” on the roofs of municipal buildings. Thanks to these solar panels, it is estimated that 1,000 tonnes fewer of carbon dioxide will be released into the atmosphere and leased into the atmosphere and the energy created could serve more than 300 homes for a year.

Fuengirola Town Hall has announced that work will start to install solar panels on the roofs of public buildings next week.

The municipal scheme to install solar panels on the roofs of all the public buildings in Fuengirola looks set to get off the ground in November: Once they are up and running the panels will generate, in real time and with immediate effect, the equivalent of the power used by 304 households in a year. At the same time the project will relieve the atmosphere of a thousand tonnes of CO2, a similar amount to the emissions produced by a vehicle over three million kilometres.
